The 2011 WPA Convention will be in Los Angeles from April 28 to May 1, 2011 at the Wilshire Grand. The Terman Teaching Conference will be held on April 27, from 9am to 5pm. The hotel is very close to the LA Live Entertainment Complex, Disney Hall, and other downtown attractions. It is next to a metro station to take you to Union Station, Hollywood, and Universal City. Renew or begin your membership now. The WPA Membership Year runs from July 1 to June 30. Membership applications for the current year are accepted from June 30 to March 15.
The Western Psychological Association was founded in 1921 for the purpose of stimulating the exchange of scientific and professional ideas and, in so doing to enhance interest in the processes of research and scholarship in the behavioral sciences. Membership in the Western Psychological Association is open to both students and professionals who wish to support these goals and who would like to be a part of the network that we have created to further them.
Aside from the obvious advantages of the educational, professional and social interactions that membership in our association provides, there are other benefits which our members enjoy. You will enjoy reading the online newsletter, The Western Psychologist, internet access to paper submission, membership, and convention registration forms, internet access to the full convention program, reduced registration fees for the annual convention, Terman Teaching Conference, and statistics workshops.
If you are a member of APA, APS, CPA, or have been a member of WPA in the past, your membership is automatic with the submission of the appropriate forms and your dues. Others are required to submit a membership application which has been signed by a sponsor along with their other forms and dues. Please also note the WPA Lifetime Membership option for only $750.
Please also consider contributing to the Western Psychological Foundation's Student Scholarship Fund. On the basis of the Program Review Committee's review of submitted abstracts, WPA awards between 12 and 20 scholarships each year to student first authors whose abstracts are rated as excellent by reviewers. Every penny of scholarship contributions is awarded each year. If each professional member of WPA contributed an average of $5 to the scholarship fund each year, we would have an annual scholarship fund of approximately $6,600.
