This one-day seminar will help attendees learn to bring out the best in
themselves and others. Drawing on cutting-edge research from psychology and
neuroscience, Dr. Keltner will offer strategies for promoting compassion and
altruism in friends, family, children, clients, and yourself. His presentation
will highlight the strong connections between goodness and happiness: doing good
things for others brings happiness to ourselves and those around us. And he'll
discuss the factors--from our genes to our families to the media--that can
foster positive and even heroic behaviors, or give rise to negative ones like
bullying.
Dr. Zimbardo, known as the "voice and face of contemporary American psychology"
and renowned for his work on the famed Stanford Prison Experiment, will trace
his four decades of research into the situations that can elicit evil from
ordinary people, as well as those that can nurture heroism. He will help
attendees become more aware of the negative power that certain situations can
exert over their behavior--a vital first step toward resisting those forces and
choosing to act heroically.

The Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley is excited to announce its April
9th seminar "Using Positive Psychology to Build Positive Emotions <http://www.academeca.com/
Drawing on cutting-edge research from the field of positive psychology, Keltner,
a renowned professor of psychology at Berkeley, will share research-tested
methods for cultivating and sustaining positive emotions such as amusement,
love, and happiness. What’s more, he'll discuss how attendees can help nurture
these emotions in children, spouses, co-workers, clients, and others. He’ll also
promote a deeper understanding of people who experience too much or too little
positive emotion, such as those suffering from mania, schizophrenia, depression,
or autism.
This seminar will also feature a presentation by Barbara Fredrickson, who will
share lessons learned from her trailblazing research on “positivity,” which has
discovered that when people experience positive emotions in a 3-to-1 ratio with
negative ones, they reach an emotional tipping point: They naturally become more
resilient to adversity and truly flourish in life. Dr. Fredrickson’s
presentation will give attendees the research-tested tools they need to rebound
from setbacks, connect with others, and broaden their minds.
