2014 WPA Convention

The 2014 WPA Convention will be at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront in Portland, Oregon. WPA runs from the morning of Thursday, April 24 to about noon on Sunday, April 27. The Terman Teaching Conference will be held on April 23 from 9am to 5pm. The convention is hosted by Western Oregon University. The hotel is close to all the attractions of downtown Portland including shopping (no sales tax!), museums, music and entertainment, restaurants and food trucks and pubs, and the world famous Voodoo Doughnut. Convention Highlights
Congratulations to programs chairs Gaithri Fernando, Brigitte Matthies, and Heidi Riggio from CSU Los Angeles, along with WPA President Jeff Mio, for inviting an outstanding group of distinguished psychologists who will be presenting talks on a variety of topics. The WPA student council, headed by graduate student representative Michelle Rozenman, is arranging for student conversation hours to follow several speakers. There will also be symposiums, paper sessions, poster sessions, and special workshops and panels.

Terman Teaching Conference
The Terman Teaching Conference will again be held on the Wednesday prior to the WPA convention. This is an excellent value with a registration fee of only $25 if you register by March 15. The theme this year is Master Teachers Creating a Dynamic Learning Environment.

APA Travel Grants for Teaching Enhancement
The Board of Educational Affairs (BEA) is awarding $10,000 in grants in 2012 to support conferences on enhancing the quality of undergraduate education in psychology and advancing the teaching of psychology at the secondary, two-year, or four-year level. To be considered for funding, the conference must be directed by an APA member, associate or affiliate, and meet the stated criteria. The grant may be used to offset travel expenses of selected conference participants, registration fees of conference participants, and speaker fees. The Joint Committee for the Revision of the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing is anticipating release of a revised draft of the 1999 Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing (AERA, APA, NCME) during the week of January 10, 2011. The revised draft Standards will be posted at http://www.teststandards.net. An on-line template will allow individuals and organizations to review and comment on the draft document. All comments and recommendations concerning the draft Standards must be submitted to the Joint Committee through this website, and will be due by April 20, 2011.
