2011 WPA Convention

The 2011 WPA Convention will be in Los Angeles from April 28 to May 1, 2011 at the Wilshire Grand. The Terman Teaching Conference will be held on April 27, from 9am to 5pm. The hotel is very close to the LA Live Entertainment Complex, Disney Hall, and other downtown attractions. It is next to a metro station to take you to Union Station, Hollywood, and Universal City. The 2010 WPA convention is scheduled for April 22-25 with the Terman Teaching Conference planned for Wednesday, April 21. The convention hotel is the Fiesta Americana Condesa Cancun. (more)

Dr. Jeffery Scott Mio from Cal Poly Pomona is the President-Elect of WPA this year. He will serve as president during the 2010-2011 academic year. (more)
News from the WPA Student Council – Fall 2009
Welcome back to school everyone! Our last Western Psychological Association conference, held in Portland, Oregon, was a major success. We had a chance to learn from many speakers about research and clinical work in diverse backgrounds, and there were several conference activities specifically for us students. (more)
Cialdini Receives 2009 WPA Teaching Award
This year’s selection for the WPA Teaching Award is Robert B. Cialdini. Dr. Cialdini has taught at Arizona State University since 1971. He has won numerous awards in his distinguished career for both his research and teaching. (more)
2009 Early Career Research Award Goes to James Kaufman
Dr. James C. Kaufman from California State University, San Bernardino received the Early Career in Research Award. Dr. Kaufman received his Ph.D. from Yale University under the direction of Robert Sternberg in 2001. (more)
Oskamp is Recipient of WPA Social Responsibility Award
The recipient of the Social Responsibility Award is Stuart Oskamp, Professor Emeritus at Claremont Graduate University. Over the course of his 40+ year career in the field, Dr. Oskamp has proven to be the quintessential social responsibility psychologist. (more)
Robert Rosenthal Recognized with WPA Lifetime Achievement Award
Robert Rosenthal is the recipient of the 2009 WPA Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Rosenthal’s career has spanned over 40 years at Harvard and at the University of California, Riverside. (more)
Carrie Margolin Recognized for Service to WPA
Carrie M. Margolin from The Evergreen State College received the 2009 WPA Service Award. The award recognizes exceptional service to the Western Psychological Association. (more)
Enrico E. Jones Clinical Psychology Research Award Won By William Lamb
A new WPA award was announced this year: The Enrico E. Jones Early Career Award for Research in Psychotherapy and Clinical Psychology. The award honors Dr. Enrico E. Jones who was on the faculty of the Psychology Department at the University of California, Berkeley from 1974 until his death from multiple myeloma in 2003. (more)

2009 WPA Convention in Portland Featured Outstanding Program
The WPA Convention, held at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront had an attendance of over 1,700. The meeting was hosted by Portland State University. Gabriela Martorell (Portland State University) was the Program Chair. With WPA President Ron Riggio, Dr. Martorell planned an outstanding program. (more)

Thanks to generous donations by WPA members, endowed funds administered by the Western Psychological Foundation, and Multivariate Software, Inc., 13 students received awards at the WPA Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 24, 2009. (more)
Terman Teaching Conference Featured Speakers and Workshops
The Fifteenth Annual Terman Teaching Conference was held on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 in Portland. Anne Duran (CSU Bakersfield) coordinated the conference. The conference theme was Out of the Ivovy Tower: Learning Opportunities Outside of the Classroom. (more)

The WPA Film Festival this year was under the direction of Carrie M. Margolin (The Evergreen State College). The projectionists were Andrew Clendening, Jaycie Osterberg, Kristine Pidgeon, and Angel Stewart. (more)
2010 Multivariate Software Award Announced
Peter Bentler and Eric Wu, creators of EQS structural equation modeling software published by Multivariate Software, will award a license for EQS along with a cash prize to a student who presents outstanding research at the WPA convention. (more)
