The Western Psychological Association seeks to hire an Executive Officer (EO) starting in Fall, 2025. The Executive Officer serves as an ex-officio (non-voting) member of the WPA Board of Directors and is appointed by the Board for a renewable mutually agreed upon term of service. From the date of hire through the 2026 Convention (April 30-May 3, 2026, in Tacoma, WA), our current EO (Jodie Ullman) will work with the new EO to ensure a smooth transition. This is a paid part-time position with commitments the entire year. Note that the EO responsibilities are relatively light during the summer and fall but are significantly heavier during the winter and spring. The position starts at $40,000 per year and does not include benefits. During the training period through the convention, the position will be paid 50% of the starting salary.
Responsibilities of the EO include:
• Day-to-day operations of WPA,
• Management of all components of the convention, e.g.
o Call for submissions,
o Reviewing of submissions,
o Convention program scheduling, and
o Hotel and organization interactions.
*Note: WPA does contract a convention manager.
• Planning board meetings,
• Working with the board to advance existing and future programs, and
• Helping to coordinate the programming of
o the WPA Council of Representatives,
o the WPA Student Council, and
o other affiliated organizations.
Desired Qualifications:
• Experience coordinating conferences or managing large projects.
• Expertise with database management software (WPA currently uses X-CD).
• Demonstrated experience and/or skill working with persons from diverse backgrounds (including students, professionals, vendors, and outside contractors).
• Master’s degree or PhD in Psychology or a related field.
• Experience working with websites and social media.
• Experience at WPA Conferences or other similar academic conferences.
• Conscientious, well-organized, and willing to learn new skills.
• Ability to learn and operate financial management software.
• Demonstrated skill in working well within team environments.
