In 1985, a San Francisco grandmother and retired food-service worker named Ruth Brinker looked around at what were the early days of the AIDS epidemic. After seeing a close friend with AIDS suffer from malnutrition, Ruth knew what needed to be done – feed her neighbors. Today, Project Open Hand prepares 2,500 nutritious meals daily and provides 200 bags of healthy groceries every day to help sustain our clients as they battle serious illnesses, isolation, or the health challenges of aging. We serve San Francisco, Oakland, and Contra Costa counties, engaging more than 300 volunteers weekly to nourish our community. WPA is proud to honor the work of Project Open Hand at our conference this year. Come view a short film about the nonprofit and hear from representatives about their amazing work in the San Francisco Bay area.
There will be a film about Project Open Hand as well as a booth and opportunity to donate. Check the online and printed program for date and time.
